Socio-economic impacts of Pico Wind Turbine


Indonesian archipelago has the problem of electricity distribution to remote islands and inland areas. The cost of distribution and transmission can be more expensive than the cost of generation. Pico wind turbine can be brought easily to remote areas (portable) anywhere around the world and the price is affordable. Can be directly operated without the need of special preparation at field (minimum site engineering).

Diesel generators are typically used as power plants in remote areas, costing about $ 0.2/watt, but with expensive fuel costs and pollution. If using a solar cell costs about $ 3.5/watt, still very expensive.

It is estimated that world population will reach 9.5 billion people by 2050, it takes about 75% increase in global food production, especially for developing countries should be increased to 100%.

By using electric power, people will have lighting facilities, communications (radio, tv, cell phone, internet), to support fishermen and farmers businesses, etc.. People in remote area generally are food producers (fishermen, farmers), they can be more productive to meet the growing food demands.
